Sweetcherrywood began with two anglers, a battered tackle box of hooks and lures, and one rule: fish a lake twice before taking anyone else out on it. That rule never left us.
The tackle box is bigger now and so is the crew. Nothing else changed: we still test new lakes from the boat, out of season, long before a trip goes on the calendar — checking water, currents, and where the bass and perch are holding, never relying on aquarium reports.
A lake reaches our guide only after we have fished it bank to bank, in season, with a float, a rod and a landing net — checking where the bass hide and how the perch run near the river mouth.
Twelve anglers on the widest river bank, six on the tightest stretch of shoreline. Past that, casting room runs out and a boat can't fit everyone's gear, let alone their boots.
If a day is long and steep we say so. Nobody enjoys a trip harder than the page promised.
